A production of ‘Aladdin’ staring Caroline Sabiston as ‘Aladdin’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society and taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay on Tuesday 9th January 2007.
A darkened auditorium with music come from the orchestra pit and the audience applauded along. The stage curtain rises, and the production begins that feature several song, dance and comedy routines performed by both young and old performers. The production includes a Chinese Lion Dog and the use of UV lights in one sequence to show Aladdin being transported by magic carpet around the world as well as passing the Angel of the North at St Mary’s Island which get a massive round of applause from the audience.
The production over Rob Smith who played ‘Wishy-Washy’ makes a call out to some of the groups and organisations in the audience. He then invites several children onto the stage and asks them all where they are from. A young woman, one of the principle cast, returns to the stage to lead the audience in a rendition of ‘Big Bang by Lazy Town’, the lyrics for which are written on a placard that is being held by another member of the cast.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance number after which the full cast come out to take a bow to the audience. An older gentleman comes forward to speak with the audience and to thank them for coming. The cast sing one final song before the curtain is lowered and people begin to leave the auditorium.
