A production of ‘Aladdin’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay starring Laura McCafferty as ‘Aladdin’, Billie Churchill as ‘Princess Balroubador’ and Brian Bell as ‘Widow Twanky’ with Neville Wanless as ‘Abanazar’ and Rowland Maughan as ‘Simple Simon’.
Low lights illuminate a decorative stage that features a large sign reading ‘Aladdin’. Music is played from the orchestra pit.

The lights go out and ‘Abanazar’ comes onto stage to address the audience. He leaves and the stage curtains opens revealing a decorative stage and the first of several song and dance routines. Rowland Maughan comes out and addresses the audience, he is accompanied by members of the cast who all begins to sing the nursery rhyme ‘Having Fun’. At a point in the production a Chinese Dragon comes onto the stage made with the help of the Art Department of Whitley Bay High School, the children inside come out and perform a routine. A flying carpet sequence features UV lighting.
The performance comes to an end and Rowland Maughan returns to the stage to address the audience and to flirt with the ‘Genie of the lamp’. He then gives thanks to some of the orchestra before acknowledges several parties or groups in that night. Eighteen birthday boys and girls come onto the stage to speak with Rowland and to sing along with him ‘Having Fun’. The children are given goodie-bags by the ‘Genie’ as they leave the stage, Roland continues to sing along with the audience.
The lights go down as dancers come onto the stage to perform a final routine after which the full cast comes out to take a bow. Rowland Maughan comes forward to thank some of the cast and behind the scenes members for their work, bouquets are presented. The cast sing one more song after which the societies Chairman Raymond Hammond comes onto the stage to present a gift to Rowland. Everyone stands to sing the National Anthem and the curtain comes down on another performance.
