Description
A matinee performance of ‘Cinderella’ put on by the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society taking place at the Playhouse Whitley Bay. The production stars Christina Carmicheal as ‘Cinderella’, Brian Wilson as ‘Buttons’ with Lilian Wilson and Neville Wanless as the ‘Ugly Sisters’. ‘Cinderella’ was also the final production to feature future Hollywood start Andrea Riseborough who had been dancer for the society since 1994.

The pianist in the orchestra pit plays as some of the audience takes their seats. The lights go down and the audience begin to applaud as the curtains lifts to reveal a chorus who begin to perform the first musical number. One of the principal cast comes forward as the production begins that features several song and dance routines performed by both adults and children. Comedy duo Len Hayden and Rowland Maughan comes onto the stage speaking directly to the audience. The first part of the production ends with Cinderella leaves the stage in a magical carriage.

The second part begins with another dance routine followed the continuation of the performance. Len and Rowland come back onto the stage after the curtain comes down to speak with the audience and to sing ‘Away in a Manger’ after which the performance continues. The story comes to an end with a final song performed by the principal cast.
Following a final scene featuring Cinderella and Buttons, Len and Rowland appear on stage to lead the audience in a rendition of ‘My Grandfather’s Clock’. They then proceed to acknowledge some of the parties and groups in the audience that day after which a line of eleven birthday boy’s and girl’s come onto the stage to chat with them about what they got for Christmas. One small girl bursts into tears and is escorted off the stage. The children begin to sing ‘My Grandfather’s Clock;’ moving their arms along to the movements of he song. At the end they are handed goodie-bags as they leave the stage followed by Len and Rowland.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance number after which the full cast come out to take a bow to the audience. The wave to the applauding audience as the curtain comes down at, he end of the performance.
