Title: Whitley Bay Pantomime Society. Dick Whittington. 1999
A darkened auditorium and stage with music coming from the orchestra pit. The curtain is raised to reveal a decoctive stage and a chorus performing the opening song and dance routine. The song over some of the principal cast appear on stage, some from the auditorium, including the comedy duo of Len Hayden and Rowland Maughan who address the audience on several occasions throughout the production. More song and dance routines featuring men, women and children in various costumes and a sequence set at the bottom of the ocean using UV silhouettes for the various sea creatures.
The production comes to an end with another song and dance routine. The curtain comes down as Len & Rowland come forward to speak with the audience and acknowledge some of the parties or groups who are there and to thank some of the behinds the scene crews. A line of seventeen birthday boys and girls come up on stage with Rowland asking them their names and Len asking then what they got for Christmas. They all sing ‘Tiddly Winky Woo’, the microphone being passed to each of the children allowing them to sing into it. A member of the cast hands out bags of goodies to each of the children before they leave. Len & Rowland continue to sing ‘Tiddly Winky Woo’ encouraging members of the audience to join in.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance routine after which the full cast come out to take a bow to the audience. Rowland Maughan comes forward again to speak to the audience and to thank those who have helped behind the scenes, several bouquets are presented. The Chairman of the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society Ray Hammond comes out onto the stage to present a gift to Rowland. The production ends with the cast singing one more song followed by the National Anthem.
