For their 25th anniversary production members of the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society perform 'Sleeping Beauty' at the Playhouse Whitley Bay recorded on Saturday 14th January 1989. The production features Lilian Wilson appearing in her first performance as the witch ‘Carabosse’ opposite Valarie Hopper as the ‘Lilac Fairy’.

A darkened auditorium and a brightly lit stage with the title’ Sleeping beauty’ lit with sparkling lights. Beneath the stage musicians perform from the orchestra pit, a light illuminating the music of a pianist.
The illuminated ‘Sleeping Beauty’ sign lifts of the stage as the houselights go out, the musicians continue to play. From the left-side of the stage an explosion followed by the appearance by the Lilac Fairy who speaking to the audience. The witch Carabosse appears following another explosion and they exchange dialogue. The main curtain is raised as the production begins with various song and dance routines featuring both men, women, and children.
The curtain comes down again and the comedy duo Len Hayden and Rowland Maughan come onto the stage via the auditorium and interacts with the audience. The curtain is raised again, and the performance continues with more song and dance routines performed on a series of sets as well. There are also comedy routines, including one featuring Len and Rowland. In the second part of the production members of the cast climb aboard and are flown away in a spaceship with the production ending onboard said spaceship.
The curtains closes and Len and Rowland come back out to speak with the audience and acknowledge some of the parties or groups who are in the audience that night. Two cast members come out onto the stage carrying a sign showing the words for ‘(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window’. The audience sing along with the two men followed by a group of birthday boys and girls who are invited onto the stage to sing along. They are asked about what presents they got for their birthday.
The children leave the stage followed by the two men as the curtains raised for the final time so that the full cast can give a final encore. Rowland Maughan speaks with the audience to thank those who have helped behind the scenes, several bouquets are presented. One of the founders of the Whitley Bay Pantomime Society Ernie Scorer comes out on the stage to applause and is thanked for helping found the society 25 years previous. He then thanks the audience for their support. One final song and the curtain falls on another production.
