Title: The Whitley Bay Pantomime Society presents Puss in Boots 1983
On the stage singers and dancers perform the first of many song and dance routines, in the background a windmill its sails turning. Rowland Maughan come on stage to speak with the audience and asks if some of the groups in the audience that night were ‘Happy’, a woman comes on stage carrying a small child followed by Rowland leading the audience in a song and dance routine. The performance continues.
During the second half Rowland Maughan comes back out to acknowledge more groups in the audience and to invite onto the stage children who would sing along with him ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. Everyone sings along as Rowland wonders out into the audience. Again, the performance continues with the cast heading into the auditorium on several occasions.
Following the final song and dance routine the curtains close and Rowland Maughan comes back onto stage to address the audience to thank the musicians in the orchestra pit. Again, Rowlands invites children onto the stage to sing along with him. A large group of children fill the stage singing a version of ‘Sing and be Happy’. As the children leave the stage Rowland wonders into the audience with everyone still singing along.
The curtain is raised once more for a final dance routine after which the full cast comes out to take a bow to the audience. They all sing the Ken Dodd song ‘Happiness’ before waving at the audience as the curtains goes up and down several times. The Chairman of the society Ernie Scorer comes onto the stage to address the audience and to thank Rowland Maughan for writing the script. The President of the society Gerald Bridges comes out onto the stage and presents several bouquets to some of the female cast as well as some of the women who work backstage, the audience applauds. Everyone stands to sing the National Anthem as the curtain comes down for the final time.
