A group of boys from Three Lane Ends county secondary school Castleford, camp at Appletreewick in the Yorkshire Dales. Girls from the same school are involved in music, preparing food, swimming, aerobic exercise and making clothes and modelling them at fashion show.
The film opens as three schoolboys walk over a grassed area near one of the school buildings to attend to an animal hutch which stands next to a perimeter footpath.
They put freshwater and animal feed into feeding bowls, the residents of the hutch, farmyard hens come out of the hutch and start feeding.
Some wild birds gather on overhead wires perhaps waiting for a chance to share in some of the hen’s feed.
The film cuts to an overhead view of eggs in a tray taken from an incubator, as young chicks are stumbling over other eggs which are yet to hatch. The film shows another view of the incubator with clear perspex or glass cover keeping the eggs warm.
The film cuts to two girls who are checking a dress fitting while another works at an ironing board. Following this the film shows girls on a catwalk modelling clothing.
The film then cuts to a two-man canoe on a river occupied by two schoolboys, another boy stands on the bank and watches his friends negotiate the rapid flow of the river.
The film shows the canoe alongside the bank, as one the teachers holds it steady as the boys prepare go off and negotiate a wider part of the river. They make rapid progress as they ride in a strong downstream current.
They then test their strength as they paddle upstream against the strong current. They then stop at rocks on the bank side as one of them steps out of the canoe. The other boy steps out while the other holds the canoe steady, they then carry the canoe on to the bank.
The film then cuts to a school room where tables are set out for a meal, two girls carry in trays. One places a cake on the table the other places small glass dessert bowls on the table. The cake has candles on it, so the setting presumably is for a birthday party.
The film cuts back to boys on the river, where they sit on outcrop of rock. Another sits on the grassy riverbank with a camera in his hand. A general view follows of the river and the hills beyond.
Another view from behind the group shows them sitting on rocks; more general views follow of the river in full flow.
More views of the group on the rocks followed by more views of the flowing river. A member of the teaching staff walks along the bank looking down at the torrent. Some of the boys gather on the rock again in mid river. Further along a man stands in the river fishing.
The film moves on to a view of tents where the school group is camping. Views follow of water being boiled, food being eaten and groups gathering to plan the activities for the day.
A general follows of the river and the torrential waters
Some of the tents are checked at the camp and some are taken down altogether. A general view shows the site of the camp, a large open area with a backdrop of trees.
A group of boys gather round a camp stove at the opening of their tent, where tea is prepared; the tea is shared out amongst the boys.
Views follow of the campers canoeing on the river. Two canoes are attached together side by side and the canoes are also provided with sails. Its sets out on the water with two boys in each canoe.
The film moves on to boys taking down a tent, the car in the background is an Austin A50 Cambridge.

[Black & White]
The film moves indoors to music practice for six violinists guided by their teacher, who is also playing.
Next a woodwork class where boys work at benches on frames for small stools and other items.
A group of girls gather in a school hall they run around the hall and do a variety of aerobic exercises.
Outside, boys wearing suitable protective clothing, receive instruction in beekeeping, as their teacher examines the contents and activity in a hive.
The film cuts to a kitchen where girls prepare and cook food. They work at tables and cook food on standard gas ovens.
The film moves back to the music room, where four cellists practice.
Outside athletic events are taking place where boys attempt the long jump. Others show their skill with a javelin. Next, the high jump followed by shot putting.
Another visit to the music room shows brass band musicians practising.
The next activity shows girls and boys at the swimming pool, where swimming and diving is practised.
Pupils and staff arrive by coach on a school trip to Richmond in North Yorkshire. They walk through the streets to the castle. The boys and girls carry items such as clipboards to aid their study. Once at the castle they make their way up to a parapet. The film shows a view of the town and nearby countryside. From the top of the castle a view shows the marketplace, church and the 18th century obelisk.
The children gather on the parapet to look down at the town and surrounding area. More views follow of the town centre. The boys carry cardboard tubes, and one or two look through them as if they were telescopes.
The film shows the solid structure of Richmond Castle keep. The children explore other parts of the castle. Another view of the keep follows, and the girls follow a path which looks down on the River Swale, as they make notes.
A group of girls with a teacher following walk towards one of the boundary walls of the castle which ends the film.
