Title: Wedding of Carolyn and Mark at Stockton Parish Church on Saturday 29th April 1989
Thistle Road in Stockton-on-Tees and two semi-detached houses with two cars parked in one of the driveways. The front door of the other house. Inside the bride in her wedding dress comes downstairs carrying a bouquet walking into the living room where her father, dressed in a morning suit, and her three bridesmaids are waiting.
The groom and best man arrive at Stockton Parish Church heading inside. Other guests arrive and make their way into the church. The bridesmaids arrive in a white Mercedes, the driver opening the door to let them out. They stand chatting with some of the other wedding guests outside the church. More guests arrive, some by car or taxi, and make their way into the church or standing outside to chat. The three bridesmaids pose for the camera in the church doorway. The bride and her father arrive, a woman helps her out of the car.
From the balcony overlooking the church aisle guests are seated in the pews, the groom and best man stand on the right side of the alter. Organ music begins to play, and everyone gets to their feet as the bride and her father enter the church making their way along the aisle towards the alter following the parish vicar. At the alter the vicar leads the marriage ceremony starting with an introduction and pray followed by the declaration and the exchange vows and of rings. The congregation stands to sing a hymn while the couple and vicar move to the high altar for the blessing. Another hymn is sung as the vicar leads the couple to the side of the church where the marriage registers and certificates are to be signed. The church choir performs for the wedding guests.
The service over the couple leaves the church followed by the wedding part, family, and friends. Outside guests gather to chat while official photographs are taken of the couple at the alter inside the church. They come out together and stand in the doorway. In the churchyard official photographs are of the couple posing together, on their own and with family and friends. The couple get back into their wedding car and pose for the camera inside before leaving for their reception.
The Newtown Social Club on Durham Road in Stockton. Inside guests sit around tables chatting over drinks, a large table of food is laid out nearby. The bride and groom are at the head of the queue for the buffet table. Guests take their plates of food back to their table where they continue to chat and eat. A three-tiered wedding cake stands on a small table, around the club guests continue to drink and talk amongst themselves.
Carolyn and Mark cut their wedding cake followed by the best man making a speech from the stage beside a set of turntables and strobe lights. Everyone laughs at his jokes. The father of the bride come up and makes a brief speech after which the best man reads out message from some of the cards the couple has received. The groom comes onto the stage to thank everyone for coming, his new wife also appears alongside him and passes out gifts of thanks to some of those involved in their wedding.
The couple speak have the first dance as slices of their wedding cake are passed around the room. The couple leave the dancefloor and are replaced by some party guests dancing to the music while others continue to sit around tables chatting. The bride returns to the dancefloor with some of her friend, she flashes them her garter. More people dance on the dancefloor followed by the couple leading a conga line around the room. People continue to enjoy themselves dancing happily to the music.
