Title: The Royal Palace From Karl Johans Gate the Royal Palace in the distance with pedestrian walking past mainly in the opposite direction and three cars driving past along the wide boulevard. Four young men, including James Dudfield Rose, stand on the steps of a building posing for the camera, one of them has a pipe in his mouth. Title: A number of students come to see us off The four men seen previously now stand on the deck of a ship, two of them doff their hats to the camera. A passenger ship is docked along a quayside where a dockside crane is loading luggage. A young couple come up the gangway onto the ship, the woman smiles and speaks with the person behind the camera. Two young men come up the gangway doffing their hats as they pass. On deck the couple and several young men laugh together. A portrait of a group made up of two women and fourteen men. They laugh and jokes around happily for the camera, portrait shots of some of the young men and the woman who all appear to be speaking with the person holding the camera. A crowd gathers on the quayside as some of those seen previously, including the young woman, leave the ship. They gather on the quayside to say goodbye to their friends. The ship begins to depart and the men on the quayside wave and shake their hats as a goodbye. Someone onboard waves a handkerchief back at them. A Norwegian flag flying from the stern of the ship changes to another vessel passing in the opposite direction. Title: Dropping the Pilot A man in naval outfit climbs down the side of the ship using a rope ladder and steps onto a rowing boat as it passes. The pilot doffs his cap at the ship as it moves away. The Tyne Bridge at Newcastle upon Tyne and a large ship sails along the River Tyne accompanied by a tugboat at its rear.
