Summary This is a two reel amateur travelogue produced by James Dudfield Rose of a holiday around Ireland in 1933. He is accompanied by his wife Elsie Adeline Rose, who also produced he films intertitles and animated map of Ireland, as well as his father, also James Dudfield Rose, who appears on several occasions. The tour begins in Ulster and features footage from the RAC Tourist Trophy race of 1933 which was won by Italian driver Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari. They move on and visit the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, watch flax being prepared near Portrush for use most likely in the production of linen and travel through the Blue Stack Mountains in Ulster and ending this reel near Achill Island in County Mayo. |

Gulls feed on the water while onboard a ship sacks are loaded onto a conveyor. A workman gives hand signals to the man at the controls of a crane who is lifting a series of wicker baskets from the hold of the ship.

At the Ards Circuit crowds standing behind a fence look down on the pitlane below, behind them banners for the like of Dunlop, a large clock and a leader board for the race. Above various flags including the Union Jack flutter in the wind.
In the pits three men push the Riley Brooklands 9 sports car to be driven by Victor Gillow past other cars and mechanics making them ready to race.
Title: The arrival of the Governor
A line of policemen stands along the pitlane, behind them mechanics and drivers continue to work. Two open-top cars drive along the pitlane, a couple in the back of the first vehicle get out.

A man standing on the edge of a track lifts a Union Jack and the sports cars parked in their spots in the pitlane begin to move out onto the racing track watched by the large crowds. At the rear car number two driven by George Field in an Invicta S Type. From the stands overlooking the pitlane cars speed past.

Billie Sullivan and his co-driver work on their Sullivan Special Morris Minor parked in the pits. One of them lays on the ground looking underneath the vehicle, the other works on the engine. Support staff stand behind a barrier handing over various tools.

George Eyston in his Riley TT6 drives relatively slowly around Quarry Corner followed by Chris Staniland who speeds past also in a Riley TT6. Other vehicles speed past watched by onlookers sitting on lay on a nearby grassy hillside.

Ronald Arthur Yallop and his co-driver open the grill on his MG Magnette K3 sports vehicle looking over the engine, an official stands nearby watching. The engine hood is tied up with a leather strap before both drivers get back in their vehicle and head back into the race.
Victor Gillows driver number ‘12’ is place in fourth place on the leader board besides Tazio Nuvolari’s number 17 currently in sixth place.

In the pits Tim Rose-Richards and his co-drive work together to refuel their Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 as well change a type. Tim speeds out of the pitlane before his co-driver can fully sit in his seat.
Title: Dixon does not believe in a jack
Freddie Dixon lifts by hand the front end of his Riley Brooklands 9 (Dixon Special) so that his co-driver can replace the right-front tyre. He hit the wheel several times with a hammer before climbing back into his car and driving away.

Tazio Nuvolari in his MG Magnette K3 pulls in off the track coming to a stop. A man carrying a large laurel wreath walks past. Tazio Nuvolari pulls into the pitlane again and is pointed in the right direction by an official.
Title: From Belfast we retrace our steps to Carrick-Fergus the ancient capital of the north
The map of Ireland again showing Carrick-Fergus between Belfast and Larne changes to a lifebuoy with ‘Carrick Fergus’ stencilled onto it. A sign points towards the landing place of King William III on the 14th June 1690 changes to show a small quiet harbour with two small fishing boats moored along a stone quayside.

A light two-wheeled carriage is parked on the curb of a street, the horse attached to it is eating from a feeding bag. An older man believed to be James Dudfield Rose Snr climbs aboard and is drive along a street, he waves at the camera as he passes.

The older man seen previous and now wearing a straw hat climbs into a rowing boat from a stone quayside. Two local men are already in the boat, one helps the gentleman onboard.

The older man walks away from the boat moored along a small stone quayside changes to a waterfall; O’Sullivan’s Cascade in the Tomes Wood west of Killarney. The man then walks back to the boat and is helped onboard again. The boat travels across the lake and back at the original quayside where he climbs out of the boat and walks away.

Title: We climb the awful Gap of Dunloe
A man climbs onto a horse changes to show another horse slowing being led along a track beside a steep ridge, part of the Gap of Dunloe in the province of Munster. Another man on horseback comes along a track followed by two more who ride across a small stone bridge. A whitewashed house is built along the track in the shadow of a mountain, the man being led on horseback is identified as the older man seen earlier in this film, he continues to travel along a rocky track through a mountain pass.

A wooden sign for the village of Blarney followed by the exterior of Blarney Castle. The old man walks through a stone doorway into the castle and walks up a set on stone steps onto the battlements. The Blarney Stone itself which is filmed being kissed by both James Dudfield Rose’s. From blow looking up at the Blarney Stone other lean over to kiss the stone.

The boat pulls away from the quayside heading out into the Irish Sea. The film ends on the ship travelling through the water.
