Lettering on the wall of a building spell out ‘Training Centre’.
The exterior of a modern office block with a flag flying from a pole and a car parked near the entrance. Inside the foyer two men head outside through a set of double doors.
A photograph of apprentices working inside a large factory space changes to apprentices in dark overalls standing behind individual benches working. Large industrial drills are set up around the room, teachers in white overall watch over the students. A young man works a lathe, three more students work their own lathes. Another student watches as the piece of metal he is working with is machine tooled.
A sign on a door reads ‘Instrument and Electrical Laboratory’. A photograph of students and teachers working in the room changes to an instructor helping an apprentice check the calibrations on a machine. In another part of the room an apprentice, now wearing a brown lab coat, adjusts the pressure and measurements of a gauge or instrument. At a workbench a third apprentice uses a soldering iron on a piece of electrical equipment.
Another door sign reads ‘Fabrication Shop’. Inside one apprentice uses a wooden hammer to hit a piece of metal fixed in a vice. Nearby another boy uses a hand square to measure a right-angle on a drawing he is working on.
A third door sign reads ‘Welding Shop’, inside students sit at benches wearing goggles as they use acetylene torches which create metal sparks.
In another part of the training centre apprentices work on drafting tables. Nearby an apprentice and teacher look at what appear to be a large metal cabinet made up of fifteen smaller compartments. Inside a number of these compartments several objects which the two appear to be looking at.
A number of tools or instruments are laid out on a table, a pair of hands places another on the table.
An instructor leads a group of young apprentices out of the workshop to a waiting bus. They all climb on board. Writing across the top of the bus reads ‘For tour Transport Phone L. Rodgers Redcar’.
Inside a sports hall the apprentices take part in various gymnastics including jumping on the spot followed by press-ups. The film ends on them playing a game of basketball.
