Richard Forsyth walks around the garden of the family home in Sedgefield wearing his new school uniform. He walks over and stands beside his mother Joanna and older brother Angus.
On a lawn out the front of a large house a man lights a cigarette for a woman, she along with two small children chase after a dog. The children continue to play with the dog while the grownups look over the flowerbeds.
In the back garden of the family home Joanna whitewashes a wall changing to her and Richard walking along a street in St Helen’s in Scotland. Wearing red gowns University of St Andrews students come out of St Salvators Chapel onto North Street. They stand around chatting before making their way towards St Andrews Cathedral. Joanna and two other women walk towards St Andrews Pier where students are walking away from it up a set of stone steps back toward the town.
Richard and a second boy jump up and down on a spring-devise in a garden. A car pulls up outside a large building and Joanna gets out cutting to her getting back in.
Beside a fire Angus and sister Rosemary Forsyth open presents watched by Joanna. Rosemary puts on a dressing-gown. Richard sits on the floor wearing a cowboy hat.
Joanna helps to dress Richard who follows his brother and mother as they walk along an icy road. They go sledding along a snow-covered country road, Angus pulling Richard around a frozen pond.
A young man followed by woman stands in the doorway of a house. Angus and Richard walk out onto snowy moorland, Angus carrying a red kite which they fly together.
The family goes for a walk near to Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland with Richard and Joanna walking along the wall itself.
On a field a game of rugby is being played by two teams of schoolboys.
The Forsyth family walk along a country track on a bitterly cold day, Joanna in a fur coat wrapping it around herself from the cold.
A large crowd of mainly children stand around an older woman who holds up a ball, a photographer takes pictures of the scene. Crowds race after the ball as the annual Sedgefield Ball Game gets underway. The ball is kicked along Front and High Street in the town and into doorways chased by eager men and some women. A large crowd follows the ball wherever it goes.
At Sedgefield Racecourse Joanna and Richard stand beside friends, around them large crowds. Onlookers stand either side of a wide section of field along which horse and riders come at speed. Angus, Rosemary and Richard look at a racing form. The family walk up a steep incline past rows of parked cars, Richard races on ahead. Another boy looks through a set of binoculars as a field of horses race past over a fence and speed around the track. Joanna stands with two other women chatting, children kick a ball around when not watching the racing.
At home Richard builds a Lego tower quickly changes to Joanna and Angus coming out of a hotel in London. The two of them cross a busy road, in the background two large high-rise apartment buildings are under construction. They walk through a large park and past Westminster Abbey. Joanna wraps a scarf around her face as Angus points something out to her.
The Forsyth’s go for a walk through the countryside climbing over and fence and walking up a small hillside. A Land Rover is parked in a field, they walk along a woodland track.
Along the driveway of a large house Richard rushes over to greet a woman, behind her a man loads the boot of a car with luggage. A family ground gather in the doorway of the house or beside the car chatting
A dog comes over to the camera out of a large white house built along a county driveway, Richard races after it. Joanna and an older woman sit on a bench chatting. Angus and an older man walk over to small fence in a field before going for a walk with Richard and the dog.
Back on the driveway the older man and Angus watch over Richard as he drives a motorised cultivator. The three of them drive past with Angus at the controls, Richard and the older man sitting in the wagon on the back. The men join the women beside the bench, Angus holds up and points a rifle.
Joanna and the dog besides a tree changes to Richard walking through the countryside with Angus. The group again gathers around the older woman sitting on the bench chatting.
Angus and another young man outside the front of the family home changes to Richard playing with a ball in a field nearby. Inside Joanna and Richard lay on a bed while she reads him a story.
Joanna and Richard walk through the family garden a look down into a box inside which is a cat.
