A home movie produced by John Scott Forsyth of a family holiday to northern Italy with wife Joanna and son Richard. Travelling by hovercraft they arrive in France heading south in their VW campervan stop at a winery believed to be Champagne De Castellane near Reims. The pass into Italy via the Alps arriving at Florence where they take in the site that include the Palazzo Vecchio, the Florence Cathedral as well as the Accademia Gallery and Boboli Gardens. Moving on they climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The remainder of their holiday involves travelling around various campsite and relaxing on beaches. Their return home is via Switzerland where Richard takes control of a speedboat speeding across a lake. At a hoverport Joanna and Richard enjoy a drink while they wait for the hovercraft to arrive. A British Rail Seaspeed hovercraft pulls up onto a beach changes to Joanna and Richard stand chatting and drinking with man outside a building. A large sign on the wall of the building reads ‘Champagne de Castelle’, inside Joanna and Richard look over several bottles of wine laid out on a table. At a campsite a Joanna and Richard play a game of Boules while a family sits outside their family sized tent. Richard puts up a tent changing to him and Joanna swimming in a waterfall. From a courtyard of a building clouds cover the mid-point up the side of a mountain. A phantom car ride through traffic travelling along Alpine roads leading into tunnels through the mountains. Snow covers part of the side of a mountain changes to another phantom car ride along a motorway passing under a signs for the city of Piacenza in Italy. Joanna and Richard walk around a large building, possibly a church. They walk through the courtyard with several other people, in the background a tower. An insect on a leaf changes to another phantom car ride. Joanna and Richard walk along a path that looks out across a rural landscape. They walk through a busy market, Joanna looks out past a restaurant bar ‘Titano’. She sits at a table that looks out across the rural landscape changes to her looking out at mountains and a valley from a viewing area near a road. In an orchard Richard and Joanna put up a tent near to their VW campervan. At the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, visitors walk past a series of statues erected in a courtyard, one is David by Michelangelo. Joanna and Richard sit on a set of steps beside two more large statues before Joanna looks out from a veranda onto the city skyline below. Looking down onto the street below pedestrians walk past in both directions, nearby is the dome of Florence Cathedral. Joanna and Richard admire the exterior of Florence Cathedral and the designs on the main door. They wonder around the busy streets. Richard goes swimming in a large outdoor pool while Joanna walks past the crowded poolside in a bathing suit. At a café near to the Palazzo Vecchio Joanna and Richard sit at a table enjoying a drink changes to view of the Ponte Vecchio crossing the Arno River. At a roadside vendor Joanna and Richard take turns play with a clacker. Inside the Accademia Gallery visitors admire various sculptures including Michelangelo’s David. Joanna and Richard look out across the city from a viewing area changes to them walking towards a fountain outside the entrance of Florence Cathedral. Sitting under a tree possibly in the Boboli Gardens, Joanna cuts a cake passing a slice to Richard. She and husband John raise a toast to the camera. Joanna and Richard walk around a large building that overlooks Florence in the near distance. They wonder along a covered path to a restaurant where they sit for a meal. A waiter opens a bottle of wine. In another part of the Boboli Gardens the Fontana del Bacchino sculpture. A woman wearing a cap pushes a Fiat 500 from the road toward a garage, she turns making her way over to a Mini Cooper. Joanna and Richard approach and then look out from near the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Richard climbs a metal ladder onto the roof. On the roof other visitors walk around the perimeter of the tower or looking out across the cityscape around them. On a small beach in the shade of a wall, Joanna and Richard enjoy a picnic. Along the beach more people either sitting on the rocky shoreline or swimming in the sea. Richard heads out onto the water in his rubber dinghy. Richard and Joanna sunbath under a tree beside a number of parked cars changes to them walking though a small coastal village, Joanna walking down a set of steps toward the sea. At a restaurant or bar a man speaks with a barman, Richard sits at a table nearby. Richard and Joanna make their way carefully across a rocky shoreline past other sunbathers laying or sitting on the rocks. She puts sun cream on her sons back, around them crowds of sunseekers either on the sand or swimming in the sea. Richard and Joanna play in the dinghy on the water alongside several other people. Inside a bar or café Richard watches his mother play a pinball machine followed by a small boy. General views of Richard and Joanna walking around a town, they sit on a park bench Joanna cutting a watermelon into sections. The VW campervan is parked along a track near the base of a mountain, nearby a road and a lorry driving along it. On a grassy area beside a lake or river tents are erected in the shade while holidaymakers, including Joanna and Richard, sunbathe on the grass or go swimming in the water. Joanna and Richard join a woman and her baby in the water, the woman sits on a towel with her baby. Joanna and Richard look out from the deck of a cruise ship travelling along a river at dusk. Joanna stands beside a Swiss flag which is flying from the stern. Beside a lake a couple climb into a speedboat, nearby Joanna and Richard sit on the seawall having a picnic. They go swimming in the lake before climbing into a speedboat and speeding across the lake with Richard at the controls. At a garage the VW campervan is being pulled onto a lift changes to it parked along a track surrounded by rows of grapevines. Richard sits at an outdoor table beside a woman drinking wine and chatting. Joanna and a second young man sit nearby. Richard walking along a narrow street in an old part of town changes to a British Rail Seaspeed hovercraft comes to a stop on a sandy beach.
