Summary The second of two home movies produced by John Scott Forsyth of a holiday to Portugal with wife Joanna, youngest son Richard and his friend. In this reel the family visit the capital Lisbon taking a ride on the cities famous trams and climbing to the top of Sanctuary of Christ the King as well as visiting the Museu de Marinha. Outside the city the family visit several historic sites as well as a number of smaller towns travelling in a VW Campervan. They travel both inland where they watch as men load sacks of flour milled at a windmill onto donkeys and along the Atlantic coastline where fishermen unloading their catch onto a quayside. |

Joanna, Richard and a second boy go for a walk-through dusty countryside, in the distance a town. Crowds sit around a large swimming pool, part of a hotel complex. Nearby chalets or cabins built on a hill. Back at the pool Richard and the second boy swim in the water changes to them flying a kite in a field near the chalets.
Joanna and the boys walk past several large and ornate building, they walk beside a road and look up at a steep rocky hillside.
At a campsite a VW Campervan, nearby sitting on a wall reading a newspaper Joanna and Richard. Joanna and the two boys make their way down onto a sandy beach.
A coastal road with a whitewashed building, possibly a church, built beside it. Joanna and Richard walk along a series of narrow streets, a woman is cooking fish on the doorstep of a house. Peacocks feed on a grassy area beside a statue, from a viewing area the Lisbon city skyline below. Several birds on a pond changes to a Lisbon white and yellow tram travelling along a road, another comes in the opposite direction and Joanna and Richard get on. Phantom tram ride from over the shoulder of the driver.
A large building with columns changes to Richard looking at several historic cannons laid out in the courtyard of a building. A directional sign reads ‘Museu de Marinha’ changes to Joanna and Richard looking over various boats on display inside the museum.
From a viewing area on the Sanctuary of Christ the King, Richard looks down onto the Pont 25 de Abril suspension bridge in the near distance. The two boys hold up their entrance tickets to the camera.
A car park at a coastal location looking out to sea where several small sailing ships are moored. On the beach a man flies a kite changes to a view looking down along a wooded coastline with sandy beach.
In a harbour fishermen work to unload a boat of their catch, in the background three fishing boat have been taken out of water. One man uses a fork to fill baskets which are carried of the boat onto the quayside by men carrying the baskets on their heads. The harbourside is busy with local men standing around chatting.
Richard and the second boy race along the battlements of a castle overlooking a town. Joanna walks past down a set of steps, the courtyard of a large building below. The two boys stand on a step overlooking the countryside below.
Joanna and the boys explore a wooded area, she rubs ointment onto Richard’s right foot. Standing beside the campervan Richard blows into a Conch shell.
Phantom car ride along a dusty country road passing a man on horse and cart. A local man stands beside a pile of wood which is seasoning. In the distance the sails on a windmill are turning. Beside the windmill Richard watches as men fill sacks and load them onto a donkey. Richard takes a ride on one of the donkeys.
Richard and the other boy walk along a rocky shoreline changes to them and Joanna sunbathing on a sandy beach. The other boy buries Richard in the sand, on the water the two boys play in a yellow dinghy.
Along a rocky cliff edge the remains of a cannon, Richard walks past on a nearby path. A flower grows in the dirt. Joanna, Richard and the second boy walks around a fort building overlooking the sea.
Back on the beach Joanna and the boys are sunbathing changes to another fort or castle that over looks a small town of village below.
The VW Campervan parked along a dusty track changes to that of a coastal village and whitewashed buildings. From the village a fort or castle sits atop a hill. Joanna and the boys make their way towards the ruin of a columned building.
Another phantom car ride along a dusty road changes to the boys throwing stone from a bridge. In the entranceway of a building a stone plinth lists names of famous artists such as Ruben, Van Dyke and Rembrandt, nearby Joanna, Richard and the second boy looking at something in their hands, possibly coins.
Richard and Joanna walk along a busy city pavement, they hold up what appears to be two bright red bags with images on the front of a Basque Pelota player.
Joanna and the two boys sit on a rock eating a picnic changes to a phantom car ride along a mountain road. A ship heads out to sea passing under a suspension bridge, from the deck of the ship the two boys watch as the boat leave harbour.
