An amateur film produced by John Scott Forsyth of a visit to Japan to help in the development of an ICI polyethylene plant there. The film begins with views from the flight from the UK to Tokyo. A visit to Mount Fuji includes men walking towards the summit. Back in presumably Tokyo the delegation takes a journey on a Shinkasen or bullet high-speed train. Traffic and pedestrians cross through several busy intersections, some of the women wearing traditional Kimono’s while other wear office outfits or western-style clothing. At an airport passengers stand in a queue waiting to board their flight. On the tarmac below food and luggage is loaded onto the Scandinavian Airlines aircraft, a man on a bicycles comes to a stop beside a trolley. On board stewardesses assist passenger, two men sit in their seats reading. The airplane takes off changes to the aircraft flying over a range of mountains. The aeroplane comes into land at an airport and taxis across the tarmac towards its arrivals gate passing other airplanes parked at their gates. A group of men stand in a road beside their cars, in the background the snowy peak of Mount Fuji. A phantom car ride travelling past telegraph poles with the ever-present peak of Mount Fuji in the background. The car passes under a concrete entranceway, writing about the entrance reads ‘Fuji Subaru Line’. Two men with cameras stands beside a car, one is taking photograph of the much closer Mount Fuji. A large building at the base of the mountain with snow above on the peaks. Several small market stalls are set up nearby, one stall owner stands under a colourful umbrella, beside him a pile of straw hats or amigasa kasa. In the near distance a large crowd walk around the building. The two men begin to ascend along a mountain path passing another building built near the edge of the mountain. Japanese lettering on a plank of wood, the two men continue their trek now walking though snow along with a third man. The three men rest, one of them taking a photograph of the surrounding vistas. They continue the walk, the camera capturing the surrounding snowscape and low clouds below. The three men begin their dissent changes to them in a bar enjoy a beer. A phantom car ride along a mountain road. On a railway station concourse several western and Japanese men stand around, in the background people buy their tickets and make their way to and from their trains. A clock reads 2.43pm. A member of staff gives directions to a woman. A crowd gathers on a platform waiting for their train. A Shinkasen or bullet high-speed train pulls into the platform and passengers begins to board. On board the train begins to pull out of the station travelling at speed though an urban landscape. Passengers relax in their seats as the train continues its journey. A woman uses a telephone or intercom system, a western man speaks into the handset. The train passes through a coast area, the sea in the distance behind buildings. At a busy road intersection pedestrians wait for the chance to cross. With the lights changed people including three young women in matching blue shirts begin to cross. Men in suits and smartly dressed women walk along a pavement. At another intersection traffic waits for lights to change as other vehicles pass by, in the background an overhead railway line. The light changes and the traffic moves again, including a yellow and red painted electric tram car. Again, at another intersection a large crowd of pedestrians cross a busy road. Swans and other birds swim on a pond in park surrounded by high-rise office buildings. In another part of the park foundations, near by three young women and a young man stand chatting and laughing. An older western man stands at a busy intersection, he turns to the camera and scratches his chin. Pedestrians cross at another interaction including a number of young women, one wearing a Kimono. A busy shopping streets with banners in Japanese writing hanging down outside many of the establishments. Two women in Kimono’s cross a road, behind them two other Japanese women wearing western clothing. Phantom car ride through heavy traffic changes to a river with a traditional Japanese building built beside it. Heavy traffic crossing a bridge over the river, five young men run past. At night neon lit buildings.
