A home move produced by John Scott Forsyth featuring wife Joanna and youngest son Richard on holiday beginning near the city of Lucerne in Switzerland where they take several trips into the Swiss Alps including a journey on the Gutsch Funicular. Moving on they travel south to Venice, Italy visiting many of the famous sites as well as taking several canal trips including one by gondola. Joanna and Richard sit on a bench beside a lake having a picnic, behind them and along the banks of the lake a number of small houses. Richard goes exploring along the nearby lakes edge. He walks through a bed of reeds.
A cable car descends into a village and comes into the station, turning and heading back up the mountain. Richard and Joanna look down on the village below as the cable car ascend the hillside through trees and passing a cable car heading in the opposite direction. In the distance above them snow-capped peaks. At the summit Joanna and Richard look down into the valley below and around them at the high snow-covered mountains.
On grass in a park Richard does gymnastics, he sits on a bench beside his mother who is looking out onto a lake. They make their way into the Swiss Museum of Transport, the sign above it reads ‘Verkehrshaus Der Schweiz’.
Richard looks out from the deck of a ship as it travels across the lake. The exit the boat and watch it depart before standing at a stop along a railway line. From inside a car travelling on a railway carriage the surrounding countryside.
Joanna and Richard walk along a riverbank and stand outside a station, a large sign above the entrance reading ‘Funicolare’. Views of the town and lake below while traveling on the funicular. From the summit Joanna and Richard look out across the wide vista.
The two of the walk along the driveway of a large house built near the lake. Joanna relaxing on a bench looking out of the surrounding countryside. Joanna and Richard come out of a large building, walk along a road to catch a ferry. Crowds of passengers look out on the scenery as the boat crosses the water. Richard and another boy go fishing from before flying a small kite in a field.
Along the Fondamenta Formace beside the Rio de la Fromace canal in Venice the ‘Ristorsnite Cici. Joanna walks across a Venetian square and watches a gondola travel past along a canal toward the Bridge of Sighs. Tourists look down from the Ponte degli Scalzi and crowds walk across the Piazza San Marco, in the distance the western façade of St Mark’s Basilica.
Joanna and Richard wonder the cities canal pathways before catching a ferry. Inside a glass factory men go about their work making various glass items, outside crowds walk along a path beside a canal. Richard looks through a wire fence down on St Mark’s Campanile in the near distance. A boy feeds the pigeons outside the Campanile itself.
Joanna and Richard walk through a market, along another canal a small sailing ship is moored beside which are two other vessels loaded down with boxes. Richard feeds the pigeons before the two of them climb about a ferry and travel along the Grand Canal. At their destination the get of the ferry and take a gondola ride through the city.
Richard in his swimming trunks throws stones into a river, surrounding him pine trees and steep snowy mountains. Joanna and Richard go for a walk through a meadow, he picks flowers for his mother. They sit relaxing beside a fast-flowing mountain stream, Joanna reading a book. A horse-drawn wagon rides past along a track, from a vista the two of them look down on a town below as well as up the snowy mountains above them as they continue their mountain walk.
Two boys race around a parked car, two women and a man pose for the camera. Richard opens a bottle of wine beside the ramparts of a castle that overlooks a river and valley far below. A road sign reads ‘Furstentum Liechtenstein’ changes to Joanna and Richard visiting a church with a large bird’s nest on the roof. A woman looks down from the balcony of a large house
The final part of the film has Joanna and Richard arriving at a building by car and being greeted by a young man who takes them inside to show the renovation work currently underway.
