At the family home in Sedgefield the Forsyth’s pack their car changing to show the promenade and beach at Brighton packed with holidaymakers. Along dockside a crowd look down on the ships moored there including one flying the French flag. A crane loads a car onto s boat followed by passengers watching from the stern of the boat depart England which disappears into the background.
A French dockside and a woman sitting at an outdoor café under an umbrella. The Forsyth car drives past, comes to a stop and Joanna walks over to get in. A couple sit at a café table changes to visitors walking towards Chartres Cathedral with its with two different types of spire.
At a campsite Joanna and son Angus put up a tent, a group of adults stand beside a whitewashed wall drinking glasses of wine. From a balcony people sitting at a table chatting. The camera pans up to show a river in the near distance. The Forsyth’s and friends sit around a table with umbrella chatting and eating, a group of them walk through the town or village. The car is parked beside the river, nearby a local man fishing while a young boy paddles past in a canoe. In the background crossing the river a bridge with many arches. Two women and a boy stand on a balcony overlooking the river and bridge below. A young man stands beside a stone wall, above him a sign reads ‘ICI L’ECHO’.
On a beach a man pumps air into a lilo which is then seen on the water being played on by two boys. A man comes out of a hairdressers or ‘Coiffeir’ followed by the family sit at tables in the shade of a tree. Back on the beach Joanna changes into a bikini and two boy paddle on the water.
In a wood a group sit around the trees relaxing, on the beach Joanna sit chatting with another woman. The family enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or café beside the water followed by a visit to a church or other religious building.
A crowd watches as a group of young men and women play a game of volleyball on the beach, Joanna in her bikini lays on the ground sunbathing. A man rides across the beach on a bicycle with wonky wheels.
A visit to the remains of a Roman amphitheatre is followed by a walk around the town and a visit to a restaurant. In the countryside a vineyard and a man using a donkey to stray pesticides or equivalent. Back in town the family have a meal at an outdoor café followed by a tour of a large church or cathedral.
Joanna speaks with a young woman is followed by men playing a game of Basque Pelota on an outdoor court. A poster on a fence changes to a boat at sea with cars parked in the ships hold. The Forsyth’s walk around a town passing a church with spire. They look down of the town from a promontory. They visit a hillside into which houses have been constructed, a group go walking through the countryside and around the base of a steep cliff attached to which is a set of stairs.
At another campsite the Forsyth car parked beside the family tent. They cook a meal on a stove in the entrance changing to three of them walking in the grounds of Versailles. They pass water features and sculptures before heading inside.
Under the Eiffel Tower in Paris a group of young children perform for a group of older men and women seated nearby. From the tower elevator views of the city below. A phantom car ride followed by crowds standing around a fish market. The film ends with the family onboard a ship heading back to England
