A home movie produced by John Scott Forsyth that featuring his wife Joanna, daughter Rosemary and sons Angus and Richard. The family is often seen with friends attending a fair in Sedgefield and walking along the beach at Whitby. During winter the family go sledding in the surrounding countryside and the final part of the film is of a visit to St Andrews in Scotland where a young man is attending university there. The film also features several walks in the countryside with Joanna and youngest son Richard.
A fair taking place in Sedgefield with children riding a carousel make up of child-sized vehicles. Joanna Forsyth and a friend watches Joanna’s youngest son Richard riding past. Nearby a swing-boat ride.
The Forsyth enjoy a picnic near a river, Angus their older son stands at the rivers edge. Joanna and her friend watch over a group of small children in the grounds of a large country house. The children play with a dog and a man looks out from an upstairs window. John, Joanna and youngest son Richard go for a walk through the countryside, in parts Angus riding on his father’s shoulders.
Outside a suburban house the Forsyth’s stands chatting with friends, a teenage girl holds Richard in her arms. The boy is passed around to others, children pose with their parent in the front garden.
Joanna and older son Angus ride out of a driveway of a suburban house on bicycles changes to show Joanna and Richard on the beach at Whitby, the child throwing stones into the sea. Richard stands beside a stone wall then walks along a promenade near a pier. Joanna with some friends walk along the lower part of one of the piers before walking along the beach with a dog. Joanna and her friend sit on the sand eating sandwiches along with the children. The boys go about collecting rocks from the beach.
Joanna outside a country pub followed by her and Richard walking near open moorland, she holds the boy as he throws stone and sticks into a stream.
A family group pose beside a car parked in a snow-covered country road. A boy speeds past on a sled followed by the others in the group. More cars parked on the road; a girl lays in the snow playing. The children use spoons to eat a desert from a bottle. On a steep hill crowds enjoy the snow sledding down at speed or walking back to the top. In the family garden at Sedgefield several small children play in the snow.
The snow gone, Richard stands looking at a bonfire burning in the family back garden and pokes it with a stick. He runs along a path and poses for the camera. He and Joanna go for a walk through the countryside and watch a man on a motorcycle drive across the hilly landscape.
From the stands a large crowd watches a rugby match taking place on the pitch. At home Joanna helps Richard to get dressed.
At the University of St Andrews in Scotland people come and go from a large building. Inside a young man plays the bagpipes. He and a second man take Richard for a walk, both men are wearing kilts. They climb and embankment where Joanna is standing beside a monument. They pose for the camera. The family group wonder around the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral before walking through the town itself. The film ends with Joanna and Richard on a beach, the boy filling a bucket with sand.
