The film also captures many large advertising billboards for some of America’s most famous brands around the same area.
Various coloured and animated neon signs light up various venues around Broadway in New York City including the Metropole Café on 7th Avenue and 48th Street and Latin Quarter nightclub on Lexington Avenue. Neon billboards advertise Dracula playing at a cinema followed by an advertising billboard for Cubana Airlines that features a mechanical animation of a man running. Another cinema shows The Vikings starting Kirk Douglas, the advertising hording outside flashing on and off. A neon clock sponsored by Chevrolet gives the time as 10pm, a third cinema is showing Gigi. More advertising neon billboards light up the night including Canadian Club whiskey and Admiral Television Appliances.
The entrance to the Hotel Astor at Time Square, nearby a news ticker provides the latest headlines wrapped around the side of the NBC Studio. More colour lights outside various venues including the Playland club. Large colourfully animated billboards for TWA airline, Kleenex tissues, Camel cigarettes, and Pepsi-Cola. An animated billboard for Life magazine features a matador fighting a bull, the catchphrase ‘Puts you in the Picture’. Other sequences follow including dancing girls, a tornado and a trapeze artist. Another billboard for Planters Peanuts flashes on and off in different colours.
Customers sit at tables inside a restaurant, a neon sign in the widow reads ‘Live Turtles. We Mail’. A large billboard atop a building promotes Budweiser beer. More neon signs including for the Tango Palace dance hall and Jack Dempsey’s Broadway Restaurant on 36 West 33rd Street. A Coca-Cola neon sign is followed by a vertical sign that reads ‘Capital’, Another vertical sign for Lindy’s deli and restaurant on Broadway and 51st Street. Cars travel past more buildings and establishments lit up with animated neon hoardings. Another neon clock gives the time as 11.28pm.
