A small doll like figure looks out of the rear door of model of a caravan. The caravan is all white and decorated with gold baubles. Another mannequin like figure nearby plays a violin.
Another notice attached to a wall reads, “Ruritanian Revelry” next to a large mannequin sized model of a dancer. Views follow of other similar models and other models of buildings finished in white and decorated.
The character models have a style which maybe in an Eastern or Russian tradition; one model building resembles a Russian orthodox church. All the models and decorations are mounted above shelves or hung from the ceiling in Rowntree’s store. Some of the model figures are mounted on turntables and revolve slowly.
Some smaller models of castles have figures moving within them.
Labels name some of the figures, one represents Captain Nicolai Betrov. Another model with additional animated characters is labelled, the Dancing Princess.
A man in costume appears and examines the display. He dressed in a Russian influenced costume similar to those the model figures are wearing. The man is followed by another dressed in a costume with headwear which is covered in glitter and tinsel. A small child poses for the camera in a similar outfit. More participants in the coming parade pose for the camera, in the display area. The group gather and pose for a photograph.
The film cuts to a view of Scarborough town and harbour in bright sunshine. The camera shows a large Rowntree’s store van parked on a nearby street overlooking the harbour.
The film changes to a view of a grand throne in white decorated with gold baubles and surrounded by young people from a juvenile jazz band.
The film cuts to a view of Santa Claus who waves to the camera. He then appears on the deck of one of the piers accompanied by some of the parade participants in their elaborate costumes as seen earlier.
He climbs on to his white throne with a sack of presents, and along with him for the ride are several companions in their eye-catching costumes. Ahead of the throne a banner is carried by members of the Horden Colliery Melody Makers juvenile jazz band, who follow on behind. The banner reads ‘Horden Colliery Melody Makers 1963’
The parade begins and approaches the camera, the jazz band is followed by those in their Ruritanian costumes then Santa Claus on the white throne. Santa Claus and his helpers wave at the crowd as the parade heads into town.
The film moves on to a high angle view of the street where Rowntree’s department store is located. Crowds wait patiently for the parade; many wait outside the entrance to the store.
The parade comes along the street, Santa waves at the crowd. The throne stops outside the store and Santa climbs down from his throne, followed by his costumed companions. The film ends as Santa Claus makes his way through the crowds to the store.
