Santa and his cohort arrives by train to Scarborough and parade through the city centre, ending at Rowntrees department store.
The film opens on what appears to be Santa’s Grotto lit with coloured lights.
This swiftly changes to a view of people meeting up at a car park. Suitcases and other items are taken from the cars. The people gather as a group and leave the car park.
They enter a railway station; a poster on a wall advertises services to London. The group leave a train, and a car is filmed leaving an area near stationary rail wagons.
The film cuts to local diesel train pulling into a station. Several people, presumably those seen earlier get on the train. A travelling view from the train follows as it leaves the station.
On board the train the group change into theatrical costumes. One of them dresses as Father Christmas. Some dress in fancy costumes perhaps as clowns; others dress in clothes which suggest they may be dancers.
Balloons are blown up and Father Christmas puts on his beard with help from one of the female performers, she also applies make-up to his face. General views show the performers adjusting their costume or getting help to make sure it’s adjusted properly.
A view from the train shows it approaching a station. The performers have arrived at York and get ready to leave the train. A station official shakes hands with Father Christmas, as a photographer nearby takes a picture. The rest of the group in full costume, have their picture taken on the station platform.
The troupe carrying balloons make their way through the station waving at passengers on other trains. They make a colourful sight along the station concourse. Opportunities are taken for Father Christmas to have his picture taken as he prepares to go past the platform gate and out of the station where a crowd of children have gathered in eager anticipation.
Outside in the street just beyond the station entrance Father Christmas waves to the waiting crowds. A veteran car pulls up in front of the camera and waits for its important passenger. Other performers mingle around nearby.
A metal plate on the car shows the owner is a member of the Veteran Car Club and the car is a De Dion Bouton built in 1904. Eventually Father Christmas gets in the car and waves to the crowd.
The car moves off along a road crowded on either side with adults and children. The dancers and entertainers in various guises accompany the car. A parade of Mini cars advertising Rowntrees follows behind the veteran car. The parade goes further on into the city, past a large store named ‘Shara’
Crowds line the pavement as the costumed entertainers lead the procession along another street, a Scottish pipe band follows on. Members of the troupe walk immediately in front of Father Christmas’s vehicle.
The parade continues with a view of a street taken from a upper floor window. Crowds wait patiently for the parade to pass by. The colourful display passes the premises of Anderson and Flintoff. The members of the troupe wave to the crowd and to those watching from upper floor windows.
Eventually Father Christmas goes past, followed by the convoy of Minis. The crowds gather around Father Christmas’s car, and he waves at the crowds with both hands. A man helps him down from his car, and then Father Christmas makes his way through the crowds, followed by the clowns and dancers.
The view changes to the interior of a store and a grotto for Father Christmas, the pipe band and the other entertainers are also present. Father Christmas is seen sitting on a chair in the grotto.
General views show what appears to be the toy department of the store, although the image is quite dark. A brief view of a greetings card display ends the
