This is a film showing the bonfire at Chevin and parade at Menston, near Otley, as part of the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations.
The film opens with photographs of the Queen on her Silver Jubilee, and a map showing the places in the British Isles where bonfires would be lit, in a chain reaction, starting from Windsor. The map goes to Chevin, near Otley, where adults and children are building a large bonfire on a hill. This is shown again ablaze at night time. The film then pans in on the nearby village of Menston on Jubilee Day, with an empty school and decorated shops. A parade assembles at 10 am in Low Hall Road, led by the Hammond Sauce Works Junior Band. These are followed on the parade by many floats, scouts, cubs, brownies and lots of children, including Parkland Playgroup, and ordinary villagers join in. The parade makes its way through the village centre to Kirklands.
Here the people pack into a hall where the Jubilee Queen sits on a throne and is crowned. The Jubilee Queen and some of her entourage pose for the camera outside the library. Children let off balloons with their names attached. Prize winners for the celebration day are announced by 'Chairman Jack'. In a school playground girls put on a dancing display. They then send a message to the Queen in semaphore using Union Jacks.
