In the Sterile cephalosporins facility two workers in facemasks watch over a convey or vials during the production process. Computers are also working to monitor production. In another part of computers watch over a large contains producing a new medicine, ceftazidime. A workman comes over and checks the readings.
In a medical facility a doctor takes the blood pressure of a man lying on an examination table while in the production facility ceftazidime is being produced and poured into vials via a computerised conveyor machine, a nurse tends to her patient in a hospital.
In the Sterile facilities employees work to produce medicines in syringes, vials and ampoules. Traffic travels along a dual carriageway during foggy weather changes to show ampoules and promotional images of the stomach ulcer drug Zantac. More vials and ampoules of the drug travel along a production convey with a gas burner is used to seal the glass ampoules. In the Liquids facilities small glass bottles and tubes travel along conveyor where the machine fills them with the appropriate medicines. Employees mix various bulk powder with liquids which are poured into the bottles seen previously. In the Topical facility another production line produces tubes of cream and ointments and lotions. Two men look over paperwork relating to safe working practices, various safety signs around the facility. General views inside a large warehouse with men working a number of large forklifts moving pallets of boxes around the site. One man on a motorised forklift transports a pallet into the back of an articulated lorry which pulls away and departs docking bay.
An aerial of the Barnard Castle facility changes to a staff training session taking place in a canteen. In another room a woman stands at an overhead projector talking to a group of other workers sitting around her, another training session.
Exterior of Manor House, a Glaxo training facility, changes to that of pieces of art erected along the banks of the Tees as part of the Waymark Project. Local children plant a tree and help to clear a pond at the school. A sample of water from the pond is taken and tested to environmental standards by a Glaxo employee.
Children swim in the pool at the Teesdale Sports Centre in Barnard Castle while games of badminton and table tennis take place in a sports hall. The film returns to the Glaxo factory and a woman in protective clothing watches over a medicine production line. The film changes to nurses working on a children’s ward in a hospital. More views of workers on a production line and images of new products; Zofran, Migrane and Flutinase. In a laboratory men and women work to test various products for possible future medicines. The film ends on a montage of images showing ampoules being produced.
