Inside a room at the Cleveland Hotel in Middlesbrough two men get dressed for a wedding. They come downstairs and walk out onto Linthorpe Road, look around before getting into a ‘Teesside County Borough Licenced Hackney Carriage’ taxi.
The taxi pulls up outside St Mary’s Church in Norton, the two men get out. Putting on their top hats they pose for the camera before heading along the path leading to the church. The vicar arrives walking along the church path, he turns his head while passing and smiles. The groom and best man follow behind, they stop beside a war memorial to check the best man has the rings.
In another bedroom the bride gets ready for her wedding and is helped putting on her veil. Around her are two bridesmaids wearing wide rimed hats. The bride looks at herself in a full-length mirror.
The bride and four bridesmaids come out into a garden where photographer Dennis Wompra poses them and adjusts their outfits. He returns to his camera chatting with the women before taking their photographs. At the front of the house the wedding party makes their way towards waiting cars. The bridesmaids get in a vintage car and are drive away followed by a second modern car. The bride and her father come out onto the street and get into another vintage car and are driven away.
The bride and her father arrive at St Mary’s Church, she is helped from the car. Arm-in-arm they make their way towards the church stopping under a small porch for photographs. Waiting in the church doorway are the four bridesmaid’s and her mother. They all pose for more photographs before heading inside. The clock on the tower reads 2pm.
A hand holds open the Order of Service. In the church vestry the priest leads the happy couple to a table where they both sign the wedding register. Family and friends gather around to watch and chat happily.
Outside the clock on the tower reads 2.26pm. The bride and groom walk out the church together followed by family and friends. Everyone stands on a grassed area chatting while nearby more official and unofficial photographs are taken of the happy couple with family and friends.
The wedding party leaves the church making their way to parked cars. The bride and groom get into the a vehicle and are drive away before pulling up outside ther Swan Hotel in Billingham. Guests arrive and everyone makes their way inside.
Inside a buffet of food laid out on tables and three-tiered wedding cake. Guests enjoy food and drink as the happy couple mingle and chat. A chef in a tallboy hat carves a piece of meat for a guest and waitresses in black and white outfits help to serve. The chef sharps his knife before slicing another piece of meat for a guest.
Wedding guests now sit around table enjoying their meals over drinks and conversations. The bride and groom get up and cut their cake and everyone raises a glass to them. The groom makes a speech followed by the best man.
Outside friends use paintbrushes to apply Golden Syrup to the door handles of a red open top sports car. Someone puts a kipper into the car engine, paper tissues are added to the back of the car. They all run back inside laughing.
More guests come outside to see the sports car that is now wrapped in ribbon, others look on through windows. A young woman puts the finishing touches to the vehicle with a smile, she chases a man across the car park with a cup full of confetti.
The happy couple appear, now out of their wedding outfits, and make their way to the red car. They laugh on seeing what is happened to it. They get in and are waved goodbye as they drive away. The film ends inside a house where wedding gifts are left out on display.
