Through brush growing along the track edge the miniature steam locomotive River Mite with it distinctive red livery travels past around a bend pulling a number of passenger carriage. Another engine in green livery travels along another section of track and through a green valley.
On-board a train passing under a bridge, the driver sits at the controls of the locomotive. In back one passenger holds a small dog while other look out at the surrounding countryside. General views from the moving train both of the landscape as it speeds past, the passengers and locomotive itself.
The driver sits at the controls followed by passenger carriages speed past from the side of the track. The locomotive River Esk passes through a grove of trees with steam coming from the funnel and views of the pistons and wheels turning.
A railway signal drops indicating it is safe to pass, the train continues its journey. Another signal changes and a man at set of controls pulls a lever changing the points on the track. The River Esk continues to steam along the track passing through a manmade cutting in the rock.
A series of quick cuts showing the train continuing to travel along the trap and the film ending with the train disappearing into the distance.
