Title: Britannia Award 1963
At the Savoy Hotel a crowd of well-dressed men and women stand around a small stage listening to Sir Eric Harrison, High Commissioner for Australia making a speech. He finishes and the crowd applaud. To the side of the stage a man reads from a list and Tyne Tees cameraman Norman Jackson comes forward to receive the Britannia Award in the Hard News Silent category from Sir Eric Harrison. Both men shake hands.
Norman looks at the awards which he holds in his hands. Men with home-movie camera records the event as Norman walks away disappearing into the crowd. Once again, the crowd applaud.
The film changes to Norman showing his award to a woman wearing mayoral chains, possibly the Mayoress of South Shields. A second woman, presumably Norman’s wife, comes forward and shakes hands with the mayoress followed by Norman speaking with the mayoress.
Members of the Volunteer Life Brigade involved in the rescue of the crew of the ‘Adelfotis II' come forward and shake hands with the mayoress. In a small cinema the Tyne Tees Television report is shown on a screen, afterward the audience of those involved in the rescue applaud.
A man with a moustache speaks with Mayoress who is sitting at the front of the auditorium. Again, the audience applauds followed by the. She makes a speech.
Norman writes in a book, he stands holding it beside the mayoress.
