An amateur film produced by Frank Sterrett the first part of which features older apprentices from ICI Billingham taking part in a hiking exercise in the Lake District as part of the ‘Discovery Course’ which was run by the company. The second part of the film features a group of Scouts making ready to depart possibly from Middlesbrough on a camping trip and setting up their tents on site. Landscape views of the hills surrounding the village of Rosthwaite in Borrowdale in the Lake District, a road sign for the village in the foreground. Four young men in matching red raincoats stand beside a Land Rover talking, standing beside a wall one of them looks down on a map and compass. In the distance the four men hike along a road out of view, a phantom car ride passing them on the road. The men walk past a house beside the road and then pass the camera along a smaller road or track. A large crowd stands in the driveway of a large suburban house or building as a Scout Master speaks with them. A group of young Scouts stand nearby besides a wall. The boys load the rucksacks onto a bus while larger items such as the tents are loaded onto the back of a flatbed lorry parked in a terraced street. Blank Two of the older Scouts play about on the flatbed lorry while also helping a man load more items onto it. At a campsite many tents of various sizes have been erected around a flagpole at the centre. A fire has been lit near one of the tents. Boys carrying out various activities such as washing outside their tents, a large vat sits on a fire watched over by two men. A boy appears to be sharpening a stick.
