Summary An amateur film produced by Frank Sterrett the majority of which features apprentices from ICI Billingham taking part in a ‘Discovery Course’ run by the company around the village of Ingleby Greenhow in North Yorkshire. Frank was one of three tutors who worked on this outward bounds course and the film captures boys taking part in various exercise and activates around a central campsite as well as them hiking around various part of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The final part of the film is believed to be a family holiday possibly to Scotland featuring them on a small beach and swimming in the sea. |

Title: Colour on the Move 1965
A group of boy’s hike across a moorland towards the top of a low-lying hill. General views of the surrounding landscape and valley below through which flows a river. The boys come over and down a ridge along a track, one of the boys is carrying a wooden pole.
In a field two boys and a man stand beside what appears to be two steaming vats; nearby other boys work together to build a tower using wooden poles and rope. Two boys sit on the ground and work together with a crosscut saw to saw a section of wood.
A group of boys play a game of volleyball, nearby two boys do squats and sit ups. They all sit beside the wooden tower drinking tea from mugs. They go back to work with a group of them building a wooden frame beside a wooded area. Inside the wood a boy uses an axe to chop wood beside another constructed wooden frame. A small wooden bridge cross a stream.
The boys stand in a group beside a marquee, their heads bowed. Beside them a number of parked cars and two men also with their heads bowed.
Several boys head off on a hike carrying rucksacks, some with walking sticks. They cross a field towards nearby hills. General views of the surrounding landscape. Several boys’ ties ropes around a large heavy log before they are seen pulling it over the edge atop a hillside and dragging it away. More general views of the surrounding countryside.
A group of boys sit along a covered table eating changing to a family of chicks walking along a track. Several boys come over the top of a nearby hill walking along the track towards the camera.
Inside the marque boys sit around a few tables eating and chatting. Outside two boys take part on an obstacle race climbing through a fabric tunnel before racing off along a track. Another boy pulls himself along a pole suspended in the air followed by another boy comes down a zip wire in a wooded area. More boys swing across muddy puddles as others crawl through a stone tunnel. Several boys climb or swing from suspended tyres.
The boys sit or stand beside the marquee possibly listening to someone off camera, a flag flies from a nearby pole. They boys hike past along a track changing to some of them holding another down on the ground. Several older boys stand or sit on the bonnet of a Land Rover vehicle, they begin to pull the hair of one of them.
Phantom car ride across a suspension bridge and a number of cars, including a Land Rover, parked beside a road. Two women stand talking with an older boy nearby, the camera pans across the landscape with mountains in the distance.
At a marina several small sailing yachts are tied up, out on the water larger vessels including a tanker are moored. On the water a small sailing yachts with orange sails is followed by a young couple posing for the camera. A woman watches a man standing in the water holding the stern of a yacht with his hand. A boys in a motorised dinghy heads out across the water.
General view of a rural landscape with a stone cottage and snowy mountains in the distance changes to a road beside a coved beach. People sit on the sand, others swim in the sea. Two women come out of the water changes to one of them back in the water paddling on a lilo. The film ends on someone changing out of their bathing costume on the beach.
