The film opens with a very young Stephen having a bath in a front room in front of a fire. Janet is by the back door playing with building blocks. She looks at a watch on her wrist. Janet plays in the garden where there is a dog on a leash, and goes on a swing and runs up and down the lawn. Janet is holding a ball near the gold fish bowl.
There is than a small boy holding a toy gun in the garden, along with an older girl who carries a toy horse on wheels. Then with another small girl she plays with a pram and with two rabbits, chasing them around the garden.
The film moves on to winter with the garden covered in snow, and the girl coming out of the back door carrying a doll and laughing at the camera. The film switches again back to the spring or summer, with the girl looking at the new flowers. In a country field the girl sits in the family car (RUM 382) before she plays with a bat and ball. They drive through the countryside near a quarry and railway sidings.
Then the family are at a beach on a sunny day, and in a park with rabbits. There are people sitting in deckchairs. The girl rides a tricycle down a residential street accompanied by a woman. Back in the garden she plays with two other girls next to the swing and the old metal dustbins. They run around and she plays on the swing and with a kitten. Eric comes out carrying Stephen and places him in his pram. The film closes with Janet and an older girl, and then also another two girls, playing in an inflated rubber dingy on the grass and then waving with a toy pram.
