The railway is unique in that it uses a standard gauge track and a powered cabling system to transport coal wagons along an inclined section from the colliery towards its final destination of the Jarrow Staithes. A standard gauge railway track with a cable laid down the middle. A set of National Coal Board (NCB) coal wagons travels past along the cable railway; a man stands beside it assisting it to come to a stop. Another set of wagons begin to move heading back down the track using the cable system. A third set of wagons travel past on their own pulled along by the cable system followed by a fourth where the film ends.
