The first of four films produced by David and Joe Brunskill recording events taking place in Shildon marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. In this film, crowds look over various engines on display at the Shildon Wagon Works and then watch them begin to depart to take part in the ‘Cavalcade of Steam’ between Shildon and Darlington.
At Shildon Wagon Works crowds look over various steam locomotives and carriages on display. Engines on show include ‘George Stephenson’ and Rishra' as well as a replica of Locomotion No.1with a carriage.
Inside the wagon works more engines are on display including the LNER Thompson Class locomotive ‘Mayflower'. Again, crowds walk about admiring the variety of engines.
Back outside on a hillside, a convoy of cars makes it way towards a large car park below. Beside the level crossing outside the wagon works a pannier tank engine steams past the watching spectators. Large crowds fill grounds in front of the engine works as the GWR 7800 Class Cookham Manor steams across the level crossing. The film ends on various large crowds lining the rail tracks.
