A home movie produced by David and Joe Brunskill showing the conversion of the old Cotherstone railway station in Teesdale near Barnard Castle into a cottage. The majority of the work is done by David who is filmed driving a front tipper, but other workmen are seen on site. Once completed an extension is added and friends and family come to visit.
The film opens on views of the derelict Cotherstone railway station. A view of a man on a tractor changes to show the empty interior of the building. An older man walks along the platform, a younger one stands beside a Morris Minor and two small dogs play on the platform.
The tractor seen previously travels along a track passing a second man. A view of two men sitting in a van changes to that of deer roaming the fields besides Raby Castle.
Back at Cotherstone railway station builders work on the platform near a cement mixer. General views follow of the station now with fitted window frames. A plasterer works on an internal wall.
Outside, views of a man playing with a dog are inter-cut with a view of birds eggs in a nest built into a bush. Glass is installed in the window frames and a man puts a lightbulb into a fixture on the platform. Two men sit on the platform edge relaxing with a small dog.
A lorry comes along a track carrying planks of wood which are then unloaded. A family group sit on grass near the station while a man opens a set of double doors onto the platform. Workmen continue to plaster interior walls and also work outside on the platform featuring a front tipper.
Views follow of the cottage, the work now partly completed, along with views of a temporary pathway leading around and away from the building and of the surrounding countryside. The film shows a dog playing nearby.
Inside the now completed conversion a man sits in a chair, two men stand together on the platform. A man running along the edge of a field towards the cottage is followed by additional views of the house in its surroundings.
The frame for an extension is built onto the side of the cottage. A woman stands beside it followed by views during construction. A view of a man and woman sitting in the garden is followed by two men continuing the work on the extension.
The extension now complete, inside a family group sit, a baby is passed over to a woman. More views of the extension and the cottage, a small dog sleeps in a doorway. A family arrive and go inside the cottage and sit together in the extension. They then walk around the exterior of the cottage.
An older couple works on a nearby allotment and a family walks through the countryside towards the cottage. The final part of the film show people walking around the cottage or sitting in the new extension followed by views of the surrounding countryside and the village of Cotherstone in the near distance.
