An amateur film produced by David and Joe Brunskill of a car rally taking place in a field believed to be near the town of Shildon in County Durham. As well as a rally through the local countryside the event also includes a series of games featuring the cars often involving the driver jumping out of his or her moving car. Some of the rally as well as some of the games are filmed at high speed. The final 100ft is a commercial title called ‘Hollywood Hell Drivers’ showing a number of cars performing stunts. The film opens showing a flatbed lorry driving onto a field with a woman and man on the back. A sign reading ‘Start’ is erected in the corner of the field and posts set up at intervals with numbers attached. A man paints another sign and a Morris Minor drives around a number of the posts as part of a game. A man driving a van gets out, walks around to the passenger wing mirror and lights something attached to it with a lighter. A race begins with three vehicles driving along lanes marked with posts. Two of the cars come to a stop partway along, the drivers jump out and race through a number of obstacles before jumping back into their still moving vehicles. Other cars take part in the same event. A number of cars arrive at the event and a steward gives directions. A speeded-up phantom car ride along a country road changes to a view of three men chatting beside a car in a car park. A number of car drivers speak with a steward before moving on. A sign under the rear of a car reads ‘Scrutineer'. In a village, two cars drive slowly through a large puddle of water followed by other cars driving at speed along a muddy track. Cars come down a steep road and speed past. A convoy of cars approaches a farm gate which is opened by the passenger of the first car. They all drive through as the passenger gets back into his vehicle. Cars approach and stop at a ‘Control’ point passing details to an official. In a field standing beside a number of cars, a group of men blow up balloons and string them together in a line. A driver with a blindfold on drives his vehicle slowly around an obstacle course. A number of other vehicles take to the course including one made up only of a frame on wheels with an engine. More events are recorded including one in which cars are driven in reverse around a marked course at speed and another race where the driver is required to jump out of his vehicle and, filmed at high speed, either change into a boiler suit or sack before getting back in and speeding off. In another game similar to musical chairs cars drive slowly in a circle around a series of posts before the drivers suddenly jump out and rush into the middle to touch a pole. A presentation is made to a man of a brown paper bag, the crowd applauds. Another race features in which the drivers have to drive up to a post, collect something and reverse back to the start at speed. A young family comes over and more races take place often involving the driver having to jump out of their vehicle to collect something before jumping back in. The final race is recorded at speed and this part of the film ends with a man on a small podium speaking into a microphone. Title: Hollywood Hell Drivers The remainder of the reel is a black and white commercial film of stuntmen performing various car stunts for a crowd.
