The film opens with family members of the graduation class standing outside The Armstrong Building, part of Newcastle University, waiting to go inside.
From the balcony overlooking Kings Hall students in gowns make their way towards the front of the hall. Richard comes forward and a sash is place over his gown. He steps forward again and shakes the hand of the Duke of Northumberland before returning to his seat.
Outside graduates come out of The Armstrong Building to waiting friends and family. Everyone mingles and photographs are taken of Richard and three of his friends on the steps of a building. The film ends with Richard out of his gown leaving the university grounds.
