An amateur film produced by Alfred Petty of the Northumberland Tennis Tournament taking place at The Northumberland Tennis Club in Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The film opens on a large banner in a car park which reads ‘Northumberland Tennis Tournament’. On two of the courts at the Northumberland Tennis Club, overlooked by St George's Church, a tennis match is in progress. Visitors arrive through a gate while on another court, possibly as part of a practice session, a woman player makes a number of serves and returns.
On two of the main courts, spectators watch as three couples warm-up in readiness to play. A South Asian man, believed Vijay Amritraj, walks onto a court as a number of ball-girls stand ready. A second man, his competitor, tucks his shirt into his shorts and the Asian man makes a number of serves before racing across the court to return a number of shots. The crowd applauds as he wins a point, the second man makes a number of serves, and again the crowd shows their appreciation.
Following the game, the second man is photographed holding a large silver plate or shield alongside a woman. A man in a suit, possibly the Duke of Northumberland, comes over and shakes both men’s hands. The two players come off the court together chatting happily.
The film ends on a men's doubles matches being played on the court watched by a small crowd.
