An amateur film produced by James Madden showing the work done by the Christian Scargill Movement based near Kettlewell in North Yorkshire over a year from winter, through spring and summer into autumn. The film showcases both the spiritual and educational work undertaken by the movement as well as more fun activities such as skiing and abseiling.
A small group of people make their way through a snowy landscape taking care as they make their way along a slippery path. Snowfall on the grounds around Scargill House and chapel while in a nearby field people enjoy skiing and sledding. The snow has stopped along the driveway leading to Scargill House and chapel, icicles hang from the guttering.
A large group takes a walk along the Scargill Nature Trail through the snowy woods and across a field. A man holding a small boy looks through a pair of binoculars, the child grabs them to take a look at himself. On a hill overlooking the house and chapel below the group rest, some of the children throw snowballs. The setting sun comes through trees and sheep congregate along a track.
In an office a man speaks on the telephone, a woman enters the room and places something on the desk beside him. The woman returns and sits in s leather chair in front of the desk and begins to pat a labrador retriever.
In another room, a woman walks over to a shelf of books and leaflets and begins looking through a book. Outside, the snow now gone, a group stands chatting. A woman hugs another woman and a young man before getting into a car. The group wave as she leaves.
In a different office, a woman types a letter on a typewriter. Around the office, three other women do administrative work relating to the community.
Outside around the chapel spring flowers grow in the grass and blossom blooms on the trees. In a nearby field, a lamb stays close to its mother. Cars are parked outside Scargill House and small yellow cowslips and early purple orchids grow, trees also begin to bud.
Looking down into a window of Scargill House a man sits at a desk writing a sermon. He flicks through a copy of the Bible and other literature making notes. In another room or classroom children flick through a series of photographic slides before they projected by the teacher. Back in the room with the man writing a sermon, he is interrupted by a woman who sits in a chair nearby. They chat as he makes additional notes.
Outside again on a vegetable plot adjacent to Scargill House a woman fills a round planter with colourful flowers. Inside the greenhouse tomatoes and beans grow on vines.
Various plates of salads, meats, and bread are laid out on a table, beside them a stack of plates. In the kitchen, a cook stirs the content of a large pan while nearby another man is washing up. Plates of cream-filled brandy-snaps are made up on a kitchen counter.
Colourful hanging baskets adorn the outside of Scargill House while underneath people relax in deck chairs. Nearby a group plays a game of volleyball while outside the chapel a man plays guitar, around him people listen or chat.
On a rocky outcrop a group goes abseiling, a young boy carefully lowers himself by rope, others follow.
Berries grown on autumnal bushes and leaves fill the driveway. A wood fire burns in a room, two boys lie on the floor in front of it and flick through nature books. In another part of the room, a larger group works together on a jigsaw while listening to records.
A young man plays the accordion, two young boys stand beside him listening. The image during this sequence changes into a kaleidoscope which is then used on a montage of images showing the chapel, snow, and a Christmas tree which ends the film.
