A troop of Cub Scouts and their leaders stand on the platform at Middlesbrough railway station waiting for their train. A diesel passenger train arrives, they get on board and some of the boys stick their heads out of the windows as it travels through the countryside. The train pulls into Castleton Moor railway station and then goes onto Grosmont where the troop alight.
On another platform, a steam locomotive from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway pulls into the station. Passengers watch as the engine turns around in order to pull the carriages back the way it came.
A number of people remain on the platform as the train pulls out of the station and travels towards Pickering. On another railway platform, a different train pulls into another platform as passengers climb aboard and the train leaves.
The troop head away from the station for a walk, the railway line not far away. They stop to enjoy a picnic near a wall overlooking the Esk Valley railway line below, a diesel passenger train travels along it. Four people ride past on horseback.
Back at the railway station, a steam train arrives and the film ends with views from it or of it as it travels through the surrounding landscape.
