Along a Lake District track hike a number of Scouts. They walk along a path beside a lake, and views follow of the surrounding landscape.
A view of a YHA sign changes to show the Scout troop approaching the hostel. They sit on the steps outside looking out on the view overlooking a lake.
A Scout comes out of the hostel while inside a companion plays table tennis. On a lake three older boys go out in a rowing boat, a steam passenger vessel passes nearby, the boys row vigorously.
The troop begins to climb a hillside before stopping part of the way up to eat sandwiches. The weather turns foggy and wet and the boys wear waterproof jackets. At the top of a hill two boys play fight, and the troop begins to head back downhill.
A view of the YHA emblem above the entrance to a three-story hostel changes to two boys stroking a pony or donkey over a stone wall. From the top of another peak, the boys look out on a lake and the landscape below.
A road sign points towards Coniston followed by another pointing towards the ‘Old Man’. The troop hike along a rocky track as one of the boys stands and looks out on the surrounding landscape. Another sign points towards Grizedale, Ulverston and the village of Satterthwaite. Nearby two boys relax as the two leaders look at their maps. The troop continues their hike along a track and some of the boys begin to throw stones.
The troop sit together on a small hillock, the leaders again consult their maps. A view of a road sign for the B5285 changes to show a church in the distance. At a playground the boys come down a slide one by one before visiting a nearby ‘Snack Bar’ its entrance built into the side of a building.
Another view of a YHA sign and a large white building nearby changes to show the boys in their swimming trunks racing across a lawn into a lake. They swim and splash about, then back on the lawn they dry off with towels, some help each other dry their backs.
Another road sign for the B5385 reads ‘Windermere by Ferry’. A car drives onto the steam ferry and the boys throw stones into the lake nearby. The ferry pulls away from the jetty, crosses Windermere and arrives at a dock on the other side where the cars drive off. The film ends over the closing title with the troop marching off along a country road.
