This amateur film shows three police dog handlers showing the pupils of Percy Hedley School in Newcastle the various skills the dogs have learned in their training. The film also shows a group of boys playing football near the school.
The film opens on the grounds of Percy Hedley School, as the children gather to watch a display of working police dogs as demonstrated by their handlers.
Three policemen walk with their dogs across the grass, near to where the children are watching.
The three dogs are told to remain at particular stages of the walk and their handlers walk on leaving them behind. The handlers walk back and the dogs remain where they are as the handlers pass by them. The handlers walk back again and the dogs join their handlers immediately as the walk past again. The handlers stop as do the dogs who sit at their feet
[some damage to film]
A change of view follows as one of the dogs retrieves an object off the grass. It goes back to its handler and surrenders the object.
Another handler sends his dog over some jumps that have been set up on the grass. It turns after the last jump and returns to its handler.
The next dog has a longer jump over low barriers set in a row, another dog clears the obstacle as easily as the first.
A policeman stands with his dog at some distance from a man not in uniform, who brandishes a stick and shouts at the policeman. The police dog rushes at the aggressor and barks. Eventually, the dog seizes the man’s arm who immediately releases the stick. The police officer approaches and tells the dog to sit. The man is searched then walks away.
[blank section]
On a paved area surrounded by classroom buildings, a group of boys plays football. However there only appears to be one goal, and wind makes it difficult for the goalkeeper to retrieve the lightweight ball. The film finishes as the ball is kicked off the pitch.
