Title: Hampeth Lodge
The film opens on an urban street and a view of four or five people standing at a road junction next to a building.
A close-up view shows a boy wheeling himself along in a wheelchair in a playground or other open space, another boy wheels himself along when he is then approached by a boy on a tricycle.
Inside the school, a number of brief views follow of girls playing with dolls and cut-out models of farm animals.
A number of staff push children in wheelchairs along a corridor. One gets out of his wheelchair and walks, supporting himself with walking sticks. He follows the others into a classroom.
The view changes to a bathroom showing two baths, and clothes drying on radiators. Rows of plastic tumblers stand on a shelf above a radiator. Each tumbler holds a toothbrush and toothpaste and is labeled with a name.
In a carpeted room a member of staff helps a group of boys play a game of bowls.
Outside a man carries a young boy across a grassed area, and places him on the backseat of a nearby waiting car. The man walks back towards the camera. The driver of the car closes the rear doors gets in and drives off.
The car exits by large gates which open onto the main road.
A man waits at the doorway of a modern building; part of the upper storey is clad in timber.
An interior view shows two boys playing with a game on the floor which uses a multi-coloured wheel mounted vertically on a stand as a target. Another boy walks up to the wheel and removes a dart, with a rubber sucker on the end from the face of the wheel. One of the boys takes aim at the wheel with a special gun and fires the dart.
A change of room and the target wheel is now placed on a tabletop. This time the wheel is set spinning. A dart hits the target, and a boy steps forward to retrieve it. He walks past the camera and reloads the gun.
A boy in bed reads a storybook. A close up of the page he is reading, reads, ‘Twizzle meets Footso’
The view changes to a classroom where a woman draws on a blackboard. She draws the outline of a flower with its stalk and leaves. A number of pupils around a desk draw on their small chalkboards, copying what they see on the board. The teacher comes over to the desk to check progress; she goes back to the board and removes the flower.
The film changes to a view of chairs placed on desks, the chairs have small wheels, a footrest, and straps. This is followed by general views of other equipment in the room.
The film cuts back to the class seen earlier drawing a flower. This time one appears to be reading, others still have their chalkboards in front of them.
The film cuts to two staff members or nurses wearing white uniforms. They are placing a bandage on a boy’s leg and foot. They then encase the bandaging in plaster. The boy seems relaxed as he lies on a treatment table and is not particularly concerned by the process.
The film changes to an outside view of children outside in the school grounds, and then inside as staff supervises their play on a variety of equipment.
Various general views follow of staff and children in classrooms. |Again the film goes outside to very general short views of staff and children.
A brief view follows inside a room which is being decorated by staff and the children with flower arrangements
Staff and children make their way down a corridor, where large windows let in daylight [blurred]
In another room, children sit in small groups at tables eating sandwiches.
The film cuts to views of beds and bedside cupboards in a small dormitory. A toy chimpanzee lies on one of the beds, with the words ‘Brooke Bond’ written across a vest that it wears.
On another bedside cupboard in another similar dormitory, the picture of a young woman stands with a written note placed beneath her portrait.
A young man walks through the entrance gates seen earlier in the film he walks past the camera.
The view changes to other children in wheelchairs being pushed around a car park area. A young girl walks between two other girls as they give her support.
Inside on a chequered tile floor, two boys play with skittles. Another boy nearby writes scores down on a chalkboard
A move to another area follows, where a young girl is making a greeting card
At another table two girls, with the help of a staff member play dominoes.
Another view follows of the girl playing with cut-out models of trees and farm animals, seen at the beginning of the film.
General views show the children outside in the car park being supported by other, who may be older girls from another school, as they wear school ties.
The film ends with some of the children in wheelchairs being pushed along at speed. A boy on a tricycle smiles at the camera
