In a workshop at the Percy Hedley Centre and School, a number of disabled young adults are making metal coat hangers. In another part of the workshop, someone is folding boxes while at a bench one young man is sanding a charity box while beside him another young man is applying a lacquer with a brush. In a classroom, a woman helps a boy using numbered wooden blocks. Around the classroom, other children play or work at their desks. In another room an older boy types at a typewriter. In a treatment room, a female Physiotherapist helps to keep a young boy sitting up catching him as he falls. In another room, a female Speech Therapist works with a young boy who is laying down moving his mouth to create words. In another part of the centre, a scene from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is performed by students of the school. In a kitchen, a Girl Guide takes a pie out of an over while nearby a second Guide is washing up using her feet. A third Girl Guide is ironing. In another room, a woman and girl sit together on a sofa in front of a television set. Traffic moves along the road outside the school, a sign at the entrance reads ‘Percy Hedley Centre School and Clinic’. Nearby a construction site for a new building. In an office, a woman answers the telephone. Back in the workshop, a young man is stacking the completed coat hangers on a rack while nearby a label has been applied to the charity box seen being lacquered earlier which reads ‘Percy Hedley School and Clinic for Spastic Children, Newcastle upon Tyne’.
