An amateur film from the Hamilton collection, this film shows a parade at a Miner's Gala on the busy streets of Wakefield, together with footage of a Butlins holiday in Filey and another trip to Torquay.
The film opens with a shot taken from one end of a street looking at the Miner's Parade for the Miner's Gala in Wakefield on Saturday 16th June, 1973. There is a brass band, a Scottish marching band and lots of people marching and holding banners; Stephen is one of the people marching in the parade.
The following scenes take place at Butlins in Filey, where they went on holidays from 7th to 14th July 1973. A man is up on a stage, making a speech and then judges line up to watch a fancy dress competition. After this are shots of Julia on a beach and then up on a type of ski lift that goes across the grounds at Butlins.
Stephen poses beside a pool at Butlins and Julia walks along the side of a fountain, Next there are shots of a donkey derby and as they race along the course, some of children fall off the animals. The Butlins Red Coats are in the field watching and helping with the competition. Some people take pictures of the children and of the young girl who wins the race.
The next scene takes place in the same field and a man dressed as a bear runs around in front of the camera. Some children pull at him and he chases them. Julia goes over to pet a donkey and smiles at the camera; she feeds it and is joined by a group of children who do the same. There is a brief shot of the Butlins Express, which is a miniature train that drives on tracks all the way around the site. There is also a shot from below looking up at Judy standing on the balcony of their chalet.
Following this is a brief shot of a llama standing on its own on a street; people look at it and try to feed it. Then there is a shot of Judy in a deckchair on the beach; she pretends to be asleep. Stephen comes into shot and walks towards the sea in his togs; he poses in a strong man pose and then dries off after a swim.
There is a long sequence of fireworks lighting up a night sky. There are fireworks which shoot up into the sky, ones that twirl around on a wheel and multi-coloured ones too. There is a brief shot of what appears to be a tree on fire.
The following scene opens with a shot of a boat with `Plymouth Belle', written on the side. Stephen stands in the doorway talking to the camera; then he sits down. There is a shot of the boat pulled up at a small beach; people are on the boat and in the water. Julia stands on the rocks and talks to the camera. She climbs along the rocks and looks in rock pools. This is followed by shots of Stephen sitting on the rocks and looking at the camera. A red setter bounds across a road and then there are more shots of Judy and Stephen walking along a road.
There are more shots of the couple on a boat as they sail past many warships and submarines that have been docked in a port. Following this, the couple visit Babacoombe Model Village in Torquay. There are various shots of Stephen and Julia posing beside small building, people, trains, swimming pools and vehicles.
Julia stands on some high rocks while the camera is lower down and films her. It is very windy and she is blown around a little bit and has to struggle to keep her feet. Stephen clambers on the rocks and sits at the top of a peak. There are shots taken from a height panning all the way across the coastline. Stephen poses beside the `Kathleen & May' tall ship and then Stephen poses with Julia beside an elaborate wall fresco. There is a shot of another young man standing beside Julia and then it cuts to her walking along a narrow street in a village.
Next they are in some gardens and Julia slides down grassy hills and they both wander around the manicured trees and sit on the stone benches.
The film ends with a chronicle of their holiday in Devon and shows the places they visit.
