The film opens with a map with an arrow that points to Easington in County Durham. This is followed by a road sign which says `Easington'
There are shots of fields and of a young boy cycling through a small village. In the small village is the `White Horse Inn' and there is a sign for `Tetley Ales' out the front. A young boy (Betty and Cyril's nephew Timothy) walks out the door of the inn with a toy boat under his arm. He walks to the beach and puts his boat into a shallow part of the sea.
Leslie paddles in the sea with him while Betty sits on the beach with their belongings. Then Timothy and his father dig a trench in the sand.
Betty and Leslie play ball with Timothy, and then they put a kite together and fly it.
Title- The coast guards not only record the passage of ships up and down the Humber but also the weather conditions.
Title-`further outlook unsettled'
Shots of a stormy beach with lightening visible far out to sea.
The coast guard talks to the camera and laughs, and then there is a shot of Timothy out on the balcony looking out to sea with a pair of binoculars. Cyril, Timothy, and the coastguard stand on the balcony and look out to sea; there are huge, black clouds in the sky.
Title-The crazy types arrive.
Betty and two other women are sitting on a beach on deckchairs, one of them is writing. A man shovels sand into a mound to make a pillow. He puts his shirt over it and lies down. Then there is a shot of another man lying in the foetal position asleep with his shirt over his head. Timothy's father rubs sand off Timothy's back and in the next shot he puts a plaster on his son's knee.

Some of the group play rounders on the beach. The tents and shelters can be seen behind them.

Some of the children are at the edge of the water running away every time the waves come near them. Leslie stays with the children by the water. Timothy's father and another man brave going into the water. One of the men has his feet buried in the sand by the children.

Timothy is buried in the sand by some of the boys. He laughs and breaks out of the sand.

Timothy blows up a large balloon and then runs off down the beach, leaving the balloon attached to a spade.
Title-The Inquisitive Types
Shots of some of the boys playing in rock pools. They turn over rocks and catch a small crab.
Title-The tough types.
Very large waves break on the shore. Some of the boys play in the waves. One of the men changes into his bathing trunks and heads into the sea where he stands with the water waist high. Timothy's father is paddling in the sea with two young girls, and another of the women in a bathing suit and cap paddles too.

Some of the boys play cricket with some of the adults.

Two of the men from the group carry a toy boat into the sea.
Title-The Pugilistic types
A group of the boys dig two separate holes in the sand and throw things at each other. Then they hop, roll and tumble into the holes.

Cyril and Leslie walk up the beach with jugs and a box. They give ice-cream wafers to the children and the adults drink tea from cups.

The group pack up the tents, chairs and clothes and leave the beach and head into the `White Horse Inn'
