This film opens with seagulls being fed by an unseen hand. A towel is in front of the camera; it is slowly lowered to reveal three young women in bathing suits. They laugh and put the towel back up over their faces.
Mr Hickling's daughter Rennie is jumping around in the sea while the adults lie on a blow up mattress and get pushed around. Mr Hickling's other daughter Valerie is pulled around on the mattress in shallow water by her mother.
At Blackpool's famous Pleasure Beach, the girls go on a merry-go-round. The large rollercoaster can be seen in the background behind them. The family then play crazy golf before Rennie goes boating on the purpose-built lake with her other brother; the lake is crowded with people in row boats.
Shot of a woman and man in deckchairs smiling and waving at camera. The following shots take place in some gardens in Blackpool where the family walk together in the sun. Two men smell the flowers on a rose bush while one of Mr Hickling's sons plays cricket and pretends to throw the bat at the camera. Back on the promenade there are people leaning against the sea walls while the very rough seas crash up near them.
Following this there are shots of Mrs Hickling and her daughters having a picnic from the back of their car; they offer food to the camera.
There are shots of a busy beach; people sit on chairs, swim and go on donkey rides. Shots of Mrs Hickling, an older couple, and Rennie posing on the beach with two small dogs. Then Mrs Hickling is digging in the sand with her daughters and there are two men in RAF uniform behind them; the girls sit on their laps.
Back at the filmmaker's home, his children stand in the garden with friends. They are all smartly dressed and sing from songbooks. The film closes at Scarborough showing people walking along the promenade, with shots of the lighthouse and Grand Hotel.
