This brief film is part of a collection that records a family from York's trips to the coast and countryside around North Yorkshire. The films were all shot by the Lord Mayor of York's son and are a child's view of these days before World War Two.
The opening shot is of a young girl who is eating some bread; she poses for the camera. The family have set up a picnic somewhere in Whitby. The next shot is a brief one of another young girl who is wearing a bonnet and a coat; she wanders up to and around a 1930s-style car.
A woman sits on a blanket in the grass. She is eating a sandwich and smiles at the camera; another woman is beside her and she laughs at the camera. There are brief shots of a young boy standing beside the car and then walking over towards one of the women, as well as a shot of the second young girl standing in the grass beside a woman sitting on a deck chair and having a drink. Beside them is the young boy who stands looking at the camera.
The camera takes panning shots of the surrounding countryside and of the three children wandering around the hills. The two women and the three children all pose for the camera and the final shots are close up shots of the two girls.
