The film opens with a shot of women removing a dish from an oven. She looks at the clock and ponders where her husband is via a voice over. The husband is then shown kissing his mistress in a car. After dropping her off, the husband drives home and his characters voice over talks about going on a trip with his mistress under the pretence of a conference.
At home, the husband packs his case in a bedroom, the woman enters and puts some socks in, and his voice over relates his annoyance over her propensity to nag. The mistress then packs her case and smiles.
The husband picks up the mistress and they drive off. He places a ring on her finger before they enter a hotel. There is then a beach scene; the couple stroll along together and kiss, but are driven away by a large group of watching kids.
Trying to find a secluded spot, they park the car in a field to kiss, but are foiled again by an angry farmer. The car gets stuck in the mud as the farmer rapidly approaches, and the woman has to get out and push. She falls into the mud, but they manage to make their getaway just in time. Driving back to the hotel they run out of petrol, as the man walks to get the petrol, he states that he hopes tonight is worth it.
In the hotel room, the woman gets undressed in the bathroom and her cigarette drops on the carpet. They get into bed and begin to kiss. However the cigarette causes a fire and the fire brigade are called. The firemen slide down a poll and drive out of the station in fire trucks. The couple notice the smoke and the woman opens a window, where a firemen climbs through and the mistress hugs him.
They drive home in the dark and the husband's voiceover remarks what a 'lost weekend' it has been. As the man arrives home, suddenly his wife's lover runs from the house and careers down the street.
Title - The end.
