A new source of energy other than coal needs to be found, and the energy consumed by a working pit needs to be reduced. This is demonstrated through footage of miners leaving running taps on in the shower and on outside taps, they must be fully turned off. Moving into the coal pit, it focuses on the ways to save energy. Leaking steam ventilation systems are pointed out to be large money wasters, and an important system which must be fully functioning at all times. Otherwise the total loss of money is identified by the narrator. Coal truck drivers are shown driving into the pit leaving their engine running while they have to stop and wait for clearance, it must be turned off. These issues are compared with other places other than mines; two children in a bath in the home are shown as an example of water conservation, and an office worker turning off the lights when they exit the room to save on electricity.
