This film documents the early construction stages of the Sainsbury's supermarket in Foss Island, York, where the building still stands today.
The film opens with a shot of an old hospital building (now flats) located at Monkgate Cloisters near the Foss Island site. Around the site of the flats are flags, which read 'Wimpey - Welcome home'. Next, the building site of Foss Islands is captured, and behind the site, the giant gas holder and Victorian chimney stack are visible. More shots show the construction underway; cement mixers, cranes, excavated holes and workmen make up the busy site.
A wall is then shown being erected by the canal, and a sign reads 'car park and site exit'. There are then shots of trees by the canal, and a pan of the new wall reveals a Sainsbury's sign above. The final sequence shows the site from an elevated position and a very large crane that towers high above.
