The film opens with a shot of two Roman actors on an outdoor stage, before an actress in Roman robes becomes the focus. The actors in roman clothing perform a scene that includes Roman centurions, and then the white robed woman pulls a sign out of flower bed that's reads 'remove for cleaning'. After which the actors carry on through the performance with monologues to the audience and a scene which involves captured prisoners.
Next, there are shots of the thespians relaxing in the courtyard and smoking cigarettes, and the filmmaker captures the rehearsals in a yard, where the group are starting to put together costumes and running through their lines on stage.

Various cuttings from Yorkshire based newspapers about the performances are then shown. Newspapers include the 'Yorkshire Post' and the 'Evening Press'.
Title - The end. Distributed by A.T.S. films LTD.
The opening shot of this sequence shows a bus travelling down a road. Inside the bus, the members of the Co-operative drama group are captured as they travel to another performance. Once off the bus, the pre-show preparations are shown; wooden frames are fitted together by builders to create the set, costume are tailored and a close up shows a picture of a miniature set.
In a courtyard, the drama group in multi-coloured costumes hold up national flags such as Australia, Norway and Japan, and walk round a small green. The final shot in this sequence shows a man painting a wooden set panel to look like a stone wall.
Title - Neslo Royal scene dock.
In the next sequence, there are many shots of the courtyard, where the play is to be held; stage hands put some final touches to the set, the actors mill around practicing their lines, and a man observing the proceedings takes notes.
The film stock changes to black and white, and a new play is captured. A man and woman in evening dress take the stage, which is decorated with pendant style paper lanterns hanging down. The man and woman chat with other couples and one of the actresses is in a wheelchair. The final section of this sequence shows a couple dancing across the stage.
Title - A fowl fag.
In this sequence another play is captured on a small stage, which has a set designed like a house. This play involves a woman looking after a young child in a very cold house; as the woman cannot afford the electricity bill. A mean moustachioed man in a suit and bowler hat turns up with her electricity bill, demanding that she pay, and the film ends here rather abruptly.
Title - Player's please.
On the lawn of a rather grand country house, a play is taking place, and a large audience have gathered in chairs outside the house. A man playing a Barman chats to another man, then girls in bonnets sing and dance. There is lots more singing and dancing and one of the scenes involves people in present day attire.
Title - The end.
