A film documenting a Gala day at York Rugby ground, which was situated near the York District Hospital. The film pays particular attention to the crowning of the Gala Queen and some of the attractions at the event.
The opening shot of this film shows the Gala queens crown resting on a cushion, before the stage and grand stands are revealed. With the Gala in full swing, the filmmaker captures a brass band playing for the crowd, and there are many shots of people playing games such as 'Pic a Pop' (spinning wheel of chance), 'Roll a Penny', 'Tumblin tanks' and also rides on small trains for young children. People mill around the open air event wearing typical summer clothing, such as floral dresses and thin summer suits, while Kids stand around eating ice lollies and men play darts.
A good static shot follows as a dignitary gives a speech to the crowd, which is followed by a boy scouts marching band. The Gala Queen then takes the stage with her long white dress and purple cloak. The girl is then crowned, and a panning shot captures her and other young ladies in fine dresses that have escorted her to the stage. The Queen makes a speech and the film ends with shots of children in fancy dress, such as a girl dressed as a Squaw.
